Bookskoetter Review:
First of all, I should say how refreshing it is to be out of the realistic fiction genre!  This book was a breath of fresh air for me.  It is not quite dystopian, but does take place in a future marked with huge inequalities between the rich "swanks" who sail the world in their luxurious clippers and the rest of the population, who lives in utter poverty in the ruins of a society that didn't quite make it. Nailer has dreamed all his life of getting out of his village, where he is forced to spend his days working a dangerous job and facing his father's anger and brutality.  His dream is to sail on the clippers whose images he secretly collects.  Everything changes one day when he finds a nearly-dead "swank" girl in a wrecked clipper near his village.  The story is entertaining, fast-paced, and imaginative.  I would recommend it to teens craving something different, especially if they are dystopian or fantasy fans (this novel is not a fantasy, but I think fantasy fans might enjoy it!)  I hope that this book makes it to next year's Gateway award nominees!
