Bookskoetter Review:
I found Muchacho to be a fairly enjoyable read.  It was written in the voice of Eddie Corazon, a juvenile delinquent from New Mexico.  Because it is written in his voice, it is full of slang, grammatical errors, etc... that add rather than detract from the character development and the story.  I often find books written in this way to be somewhat annoying and forced, however, I found Muchacho to refreshingly honest. The protagonist, Eddie, offers a lot of intelligent criticism about the public school system.  As a teacher in a public school, I found his criticism particularly insightful.  The story is hopeful, and yet not unrealistic.  I would recommend this book to teens, especially those interested in both inner-city school and Latino culture.
