Bookskoetter Review:

Here we are, back in the world of realistic fiction.  This book definitely wasn't bad.  It just wasn't awesome.  It's entirely possible that I'm not a huge fan of this book because I have just read too many books dealing with heavy, serious topics lately.  Truly, this was a better book than some of the books on the 2011-2012 Gateway Award nominees.  It offers an intimate look at the cycle of abuse that affects many families, and the way that is has wreaked havoc on the lives of a teenage boy and his older brother.  Both brothers ran away at different points in their lives, and are now trying to rebuild their lives without being found by their father, while also trying to rescue their mother before she is killed by their abusive father.  I would recommend this book to teens who enjoy reading books that deal with serious issues.
